Dai MIYATA / Cello

His splendid talent attracted a lot of attention of people and musicians surrounding him since his early childhood, and after 9 years old he won the first prizes in all the contests in which he participated including the 74th Music Competition of Japan.
In 2009, Miyata won the grand prix in the 9th Rostropovich Cello Competition. He is the very first Japanese competitor who won the grand prix in the world's most prestigious competition.
Also, he is a recipient of various prestigious awards/prizes such as the 6th Hideo Saito Memorial Foundation Award, the 20th Idemitsu Music Prize (2010), the 13th Hotel Okura Music Award (2012) and received the honor to be selected as a scholarship student of the 35th Ezoe Scholarship Foundation and the Rohm Music Foundation. Obtained a scholarship at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo, Miyata graduated from the Soloist Diploma Course of the Toho Gakuen College as an honorary student with the top's results.
After that, he graduated from the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève in Switzerland in 2009, and the Kronberg Academy in Germany in June 2013.
He has studied cello under Sumiko Kurata and Frans Helmerson; chamber music with Tokyo Quartet, Sadao Harada, Koichiro Harada, Tomoko Kato, Nobuko Imai, Richard Young and Gabor Takacs=Nagy.
Miyata played concertos with domestic and foreign various orchestras such as Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris and Sinfonietta Frankfurt.
And he is active in holding solo concerts, recital and chamber music with world famous musicians; Lynn Harrell, Gidon Kremer, Yurii Bashmet, Maxim Vengerov, Augustin Dumay and Eliahu Inbal.
His first CD "DAI FIRST - Chanting with Cello-" was released in December 2011 and his second CD "Miyata Dai / Cello Ichie-shu –Recontre-" in 2014, both from Universal.
In 2012, He played in Suntory Hall with Mito Chamber Music Orchestra under the baton of Seiji Ozawa. The documentary of this concert was broadcast as a 120 minutes TV musical program in BS Asahi Broadcasting, and became the big center of attention. This Program was nominated for the Prize of the Art Festival of the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan.
The mass media in the world are observing him very much. He is one of the best young cellist who attracts people's expectation in the present age.
